Vijayawada is known as the political as well as publishing capital of Andhra Pradesh. It is also known as 'the city that never sleeps'. A major business center, it is the hub of commercial activity in the coastal area. The St. Mary's church and the Moghalrajapuram caves are some of the attractions in the city, known for its cinema theatres and typically Andhra food.

Site Seeing

Prakasam Barrage - Modern regulator and Road Bridge that stretches across the river Krishna. Its panoramic lake and the three canals that run through the city give Vijayawada a Venetian appearance.

Kanaka Durga Temple - Kanaka Durga Temple is one of the most famous temples of Vijayawada. It is located on an Indrakeeladri hill. One can either motor up the ghat road or take to the steps on foot. During Dasara, lakhs of devotees from the city and its environs throng the temple after a holy dip in the River Krishna close by.

Gunadala Matha Shrine - Gundala Church is situated on a hillock on the eastern side of the town, at Gundala. It attracts a large number of devotees. It is also known as St. Mary's church.

Undavalli Caves - Undavalli Caves are just 8 kms from Vijayawada. The high hill overlooking the Krishna River hosts fine specimens of cut-in architectural and sculptural models.

Gandhi Hill - Gandhi Hill is also known as Gandhi Stupa and Orr Hill. This Monument built in memory of Mahatma Gandhi. Sound and light show and planetarium are main attractions here.

Mangalagiri - Mangalagiri is 12 kms from Vijayawada and it is the renowned temple of Lord Narasimha in Mangalagiri, on a hillock. The feature of this temple is that the mouth of the idol accepts half the quantity of Panakam offered by devotees, irrespective of the size of the vessel.

Apart from that Bhavani Island Leisure Spots, Hazrat Bal Mosque Pilgrim Centres, Kanaka Durga Temple Pilgrim Centres, Mogalarajapuram Caves and Victoria Jubilee Museum are the main tourist attractions of Vijayawada. How to reach Vijayawada.

Air - The domestic airport located at Gannavaram, about 20-km, from the city connects Vijayawada to Hyderabad and Vishakhapatnam.

Rail - Situated along the Chennai- Howrah and Chennai-Delhi rail route, this is the largest railway junction of the South Central Railway. There are a number of express and super fast trains that connect Vijayawada with almost all the important places of the country.

Road - Vijayawada is well connected by Road and it is located 275 Kms from Hyderabad.

Climate

Summers in Vijayawada are hot and with lot of humidity. Winters during December to February are mild and pleasant with temperatures. Vijayawada gets its rainfalls from both the southwest monsoon and northeast monsoon during June to October. September To February, Especially During Dasara (Dussehra)
